(1) Tourist Information for Fukuroda Falls
Fukuroda Falls, located in Fukuroda, Daigo Town, is a 120m long and 73m wide waterfall, designated as a National Scenic Beauty and a popular tourist attraction in Ibaraki Prefecture. It is known as one of Japan's Three Great Waterfalls, along with Kegon Falls and Nachi Falls, and has also been selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls. It is also called "Yodo-no-Taki" (Four-Time Falls), and it is said that in ancient times, when the monk Saigyo visited this place, he praised it by saying, "You cannot truly appreciate its beauty unless you visit it once in each of the four seasons."
In autumn, the autumn leaves are beautiful, and in severe winter, you can see the entire waterfall frozen solid, forming an icefall. The "Winter Waterfall Journey" event held in Oku-Kuji Fukuroda during winter creates a fantastical winter scenery with waterfall illuminations, suspension bridge illuminations, and the flickering lights of river stones along the Takigawa River. Furthermore, Tsukioreyama, connected to mountains like Mt. Nantai, is a recommended spot for mountain climbing and hiking.
