This is a view of swans from the west levee of Gotanda Pond towards the road. This pond is bordered by Ibaraki Prefectural Road 167 on the north side and rice fields on the east, south, and west sides, making it a safe pond with a good view. Swans come here because they can feed on fallen rice grains and second sprouts in the rice fields.
Around noon on February 23, 2025, we covered the swan migration status at Gotanda Pond in Hitachiota City. We confirmed the arrival of 50 swans, which is more than usual. 50 swans can be seen in the photo above. The swans are expected to be visible until mid-March. Additionally, Kotoku Swamp in Naka City, famous for its swan overwintering ground, is relatively close across the Kuji River, so there is a possibility that they are flying from Kotoku Swamp. Please also check the Gotanda Pond Swan Guide/VR Tour page. Nearby are Shinsawaike Shinsui Park, famous for its lotus and plum blossoms, and Tokiwaya, a soba restaurant famous for Hitachiaki Soba. As of February 23, 2025, the plum groves at Shinsawaike Shinsui Park and Seizan-no-Sato Togen are in bud. The best viewing time is expected to be early March, and you should be able to see both swans and plum blossoms at the same time.
