Autumn foliage photo near Tsukubasan Shrine Shinkyo Bridge and VR tour link

The grounds of Tsukubasan Shrine are home to many old evergreen trees such as Japanese cedar, sudajii (chinquapin), fir, and Japanese evergreen oak. Among these, the area to the left of the "Tsukubasan Shrine Shinkyo Bridge" (Ibaraki Prefecture Designated Cultural Property) on the shrine approach, and the area to the left of the "Zuishinmon Gate" (Tsukuba City Designated Cultural Property) are recommended spots for autumn leaves. Additionally, there are several relatively large ginkgo trees near the Sanmon Gate, which are also recommended for their yellow autumn leaves. However, ginkgo leaves turn yellow 1-2 weeks earlier than the autumn foliage (maple) season within the shrine grounds.
*The photo was taken of the maple trees on the west side from the approach in front of Shinkyo Bridge. Click on it to view the autumn foliage VR scene. Also, the maple trees near Shinkyo Bridge seem to be delayed by about 1 to 2 weeks compared to the autumn foliage near the cable car or the hiking trail entrance on the west side of the shrine, perhaps due to being in the shade of large evergreen trees.

Maple Valley on Mt. Tsukuba Shiki-no-michi: Recommended Autumn Foliage Spot

Photo of the sloped scenery of Maple Valley on Mt. Tsukuba Shiki-no-michi and VR tour link

Mt. Tsukuba Shiki-no-michi (Four Seasons Road) is located on the northwest side of Mt. Tsukuba Plum Grove, below the forest road (Tsukuba City - Mt. Tsukuba Plum Grove Entrance ~ Sakuragawa City - Sakayori Entrance). If you go straight on the forest road from Mikairi Endai (Returning View Bench) in Tsukuba Plum Grove, you will reach a T-junction after about 100m; turning right will lead towards the observation gazebo. Proceed north at the T-junction, and soon there will be a curve towards the west; continue straight for about 270m to reach an open space (mini park) with a car barrier. From there, walk about 500m southwest along the walking path (promenade), and on the left side of the slope, you will find "Maple Valley". However, the walking path has inclines and declines and is unpaved, so sneakers or similar footwear are essential. Click on the photo to view the VR tour.

Autumn Foliage View from the Promenade Side of Maple Valley

Photo of Shiki-no-Michi and Autumn Leaves with VR Tour Link

The photo was taken on December 13th, at the peak of autumn leaves, from the end (west) side of Shiki-no-Michi.
Maple Valley is located below Shiki-no-Michi, and the central part of the path is beautiful with many fallen leaves from maple trees and other deciduous trees. This Maple Valley does not have dangerous steep slopes, but it does have some incline, and there are no specific paths for viewing. If you are not wearing trekking shoes or hiking boots, the fallen leaves can be slippery, so it is recommended to view from the path.
If you wish to enjoy trekking, there is a sign leading to the forest road (towards the plum grove's azumaya) on the promenade approximately 100m before Maple Valley, from which you can go towards the azumaya in Mount Tsukuba Plum Grove. A steep ascent continues, but it is relatively comfortable due to the log-retained steps. On this route, you can also enjoy the maple tree-lined forest road of the Tsukuba Plum Grove.

Autumn Foliage Scenery on the Southern Slope of Mt. Nantai, Mt. Tsukuba

Autumn foliage scenery on the southern slope of Mt. Nantai, Mt. Tsukuba and VR tour link

Where is the most beautiful autumn foliage spot on Mt. Tsukuba?

The southern slope of Mt. Nantai is where deciduous broadleaf trees such as maples, beeches, oaks, sawtooth oaks, and wild cherries are most abundant on Mt. Tsukuba. The photo shows the autumn foliage scenery of the southern slope of Mt. Nantai, Mt. Tsukuba, taken by aerial photography in 2022. This photo is an aerial shot from above Shozanji Temple in Kunimatsu, Tsukuba City, and this scenery cannot be actually seen in the same way.
Click the photo to view the Autumn Foliage VR scene to see the autumn colors.
The main part generally coincides with Mt. Tsukuba's wild cherry blossom colony, but it can be seen that the autumn foliage spreads further down to the foothills, making it wider than the wild cherry blossom colony.
From this VR scene, setting aside the shape of Mt. Tsukuba, one can infer where Mt. Tsukuba and its autumn foliage appear most beautiful. In terms of angle, the direction slightly to the right (east) by about 30 degrees from this photo has more autumn foliage, so it is thought to be from the ground near the intersection of Prefectural Roads 14 and 42, similar to the wild cherry blossom colony scenery. Since the ground scene of the intersection has not been filmed yet, please see the aerial VR scene of the intersection.
